Designprijs Cultuurfonds 2019
2019
We proudly announce that Simone Post has won the 2019 Culture Fund Design Prize!
Chairman of the jury Jan Post: “Ever since her graduation from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2015, Simone Post has built an exceptional body of work, both in quality and identity, that reveals a high level of craftsmanship. She translates a problem into beautiful products and innovative design which always finds a market.”
Simone’s work is characterized by material experiments, in-depth research and a love for colour, print and crafts. She strives for durable design, rooted in traditions. She launched her career with the project Post-Vlisco, a carpet that introduced a second life for the rejected fabrics from textile manufacturer Vlisco. Simone Post collaborates closely with wood and plastic factories to turn their waste material into products. She is co-founder of Envisions, a collective of twenty designers with a mutual passion for experiment and research. Together they know how to inspire larger industries to adopt new approaches towards recycling. “Recycling is nothing new, yet the scale and technique that Simone adopts to accomplish this is unprecedented.”
The jury selected Simone as winner from a shortlist of five candidates including Chloé Rutzerveld, Theophile Blandet, Terésa van Dongen and Irene Stracuzzi.
The Design prize is awarded biennially, altering between established designers and upcoming talents. In 2017 designer Piet Hein Eek was the winner. The official award ceremony will take place during the Dutch Design Week, on October 20 in Designcentrum Kazerne in Eindhoven. In June, Design Museum Den Bosch hosts a presentation on the work of the five candidates.
