The importance of experimenting

Deconstruct and disrupt, reverse and reinvent: creatives seek to shake up the status quo by exploring previously undiscovered paths in the process and increasingly take on the role of both inventor and maker. After graduation, Simone Post wanted to show a bigger audience the importance of the research stages in the design process. Together with Sanne Schuurman and Iwan Pol, she decided to gather a group of designers with the same energetic and experimental way of working. Envisions was born and had its first exhibition in Milan at the ‘Salone del Mobile’ in 2016, called ‘Products in Process – Part 1’.

As a design collective, Envisions showcases everything but the end product. The collection of work aims to offer new insights to different phases that would normally never be seen by the public. This setup is also intended to trigger a dialogue between designers, clients and manufacturers who are encouraged to approach each project as a collaborator. By crowdsourcing ideas, Envisions allows for unexpected developments in the making process and ultimately gives rise to newfound joint ventures and collaborations with other companies.

Already in the first years of its fledgling existence, Envisions has been exhibiting at the main international design fairs in New York, London, Milan and the ‘Dutch Design Week’ in Eindhoven . After laying solid foundations for Envisions in its early critical years and realising the first experimental joined collaboration with the industry, Simone decided to step back from the organising role as of 2018 and focus on her own studio work. Simone is still involved as a designer with Envisions the Collective.
